Light of a Gold Star

Written and Composed by John Stea. Provided here with permission.

Sometimes a battle becomes a war
Flags unfurl, boots land on a shore
Voices on the line, knocks on the door
Twenty-one guns, now its quarter to four
In the morning
Without warning

Chorus:
Golden lights fall from a star-spangled sky
And I hear your voice saying it’s all right: it’s all right
You found your way home from so very far
Under the light of a gold star
Shine on, shine on, shine on
Shine on, shine on, shine on

Plans are laid, soldiers march in time
You’ll be back, a promise with goodbye
Pictures on a wall, lighthearted smiles
Take me to those memories in my mind
Through the night mist
When a storm lifts

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
A blue star turned to Gold
As a flag began to fold
Still through it all
You kept your promise

Repeat Chorus

Light of a Gold Star was suggested for addition by the author/composer, John Stea.

Greetings:

I am writing to you as a former Scout who grew up with a deep appreciation for the songs and traditions found on your site. I still remember the impact those songs had on me as a child, and I admire how ScoutSongs.com keeps that spirit alive for new generations. I’m reaching out because I wrote a tribute song titled "Light of a Gold Star." It was created to honor Gold Star families and the ultimate sacrifice made by our service members. The song has been recorded by the US Army and other artists and has been featured at various Gold Star ceremonies

Given your impressive collection of patriotic songs, I was wondering if you might consider adding "Light of a Gold Star" to your list. I believe it could be a meaningful addition for troops looking for music for Memorial Day, Veterans Day, or other ceremonies. You can listen to the song and view the lyrics at the following sites;

Thank you for all you do to provide such a wonderful resource for the Scouting community and beyond. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

John Stea MD
